House Republicans Just Voted to Eliminate the Only Federal Agency That Makes Sure Voting Machines Can’t Be Hacked | The Nation

In a little-noticed 6-3 vote today, the House Administration Committee voted along party lines to eliminate the Election Assistance Commission, which helps states run elections and is the only federal agency charged with making sure voting machines can’t be hacked. The EAC was created after the disastrous 2000 election in Florida as part of the Help America Vote Act to rectify problems like butterfly ballots and hanging chads.

cardboard pinball machine

One of the perks of working at Make: is that you’re the first to see some of the fun projects and kits that bubble up from Maker Faires all over the world. I first spotted the Cardboard Teck Instantute (yes, that’s their name) and their Pinbox 3000 kit through Dale Dougherty’s report from the 2015 National Maker Faire. As a pinball nerd, it spoke to me, and I’ve been waiting anxiously for the kit to ship.

Craig Trader's Chaos Machine - Think of it as Entropy in Action

The Chaos Machine is a massive collection of tubes, tracks, motors and other widgets that can be used to move marbles around a layout that you build yourself. It’s a bit like Lego, only with marbles racing around. The main components of the machine are produced in kits from Chaos Toy. What makes it chaotic is that anyone and everyone is encouraged to change the machine while it’s in action.
