Build your own OpenStreetMap Server - Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx | weait.com

SUNY Buffalo campus as seen on OpenStreetMap.org in March of 2009

Build your own OpenStreetMap server. Build your own what?

OpenStreetMap is the editable World map of everything. It is the Wikipedia of maps. It is to other on-line maps as Wikipedia is to Britannica. And it is awesome in every possible way.

The current version of this article is based on Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. Lucid will be released on 29 April 2010 and be in beta until then. Operating systems in beta are not suitable for production use.

Building a tile server from packages | switch2osm

city map, margaret street

If you’d like to build your own tile server, using packages can save you a good deal of installation work.

These packages work with Ubuntu Linux versions 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) and above. After installation, you should have your own working tileserver with the standard OSM Mapnik stylesheet, into which you can import an extract of the OSM data for rendering.

The Java XAPI is a partial implementation of the XAPI read-only OSM server in Java. It is implemented as a servlet and uses pieces of Osmosis to perform the database queries.

Toby's Blog of open/mappy things: Keeping a database up to date with osmosis

Toby Murray

This is a follow-up to my previous post about importing a planet file into a pgsnapshot database schema. However the same basic process applies to other schemas that osmosis can write to.

Coastal's Blog: How to get an up-to-date OSM in PostGIS

Andrew Bailey

Rather than doing a quarterly manual job of downloading a 14Gb+ file, decompressing it (250Gb+) and inserting it into a database it will be a lot easier to download daily (50Mb) OSM change files (.osc) and apply the changes to the existing database.

The instructions below is a modified version of Martin van Exel's tutorial here - https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1paaYsOakgJEYP380R70s4SGYq8ME3ASl-mweVi1DlQ4

A self-updating OpenStreetMap database of US bridges – a step-by-step guide. | oegeo

Strategy for keeping an up-to-date geographical and functional OpenStreetMap extract

I want all bridges in the US that are mapped in OpenStreetMap in a PostGIS database.

I want all bridges in the US that are mapped in OpenStreetMap in a PostGIS database that stays as up-to-date as possible, reflecting all the latest changes.
