Open letter to Mozilla: Bring back Persona - Stavros' Stuff

books

For those of you who don’t know, Persona was a private, decentralized authentication protocol that Mozilla developed. It’s pretty much those “Log in with Facebook” buttons that you see on some sites, except that, instead of Facebook, you just log in with your email provider. So, if you enter a Gmail address, you’ll be redirected to Gmail and be asked to allow the site to see your address, and you’ll be logged in, without Gmail ever knowing...

Using the viewport meta tag to control layout on mobile browsers - Mozilla | MDN

05-11-fennec-meta-viewport-2.png

The upcoming release of Mobile Firefox (Fennec) 1.1 features improved support for the tag. Previous versions of Fennec supported the width, height, and initial-scale viewport properties, but had problems with some sites designed for iPhone and Android browsers. We now support the same properties Mobile Safari does, and we also changed Fennec to render mobile sites more consistently on screens of different sizes and resolutions.

Electrolysis - MozillaWiki

tags: process, Firefox
bcd-alt-text

The goal of the project is to run web content in a separate process from Firefox itself. The two major advantages of this model are security and performance. Security would improve because the content processes could be sandboxed (although sandboxing the content processes is a separate project from Electrolysis). Performance would improve because the browser UI would not be affected by poor performance of content code (be it layout or JavaScript)...

Setting Prefs for the Mozilla Rich Text Editing Demo

bcd-alt-text

To protect users' private information, unprivileged scripts cannot invoke the Cut, Copy, and Paste commands in the Mozilla rich text editor, so the corresponding buttons on the Mozilla Rich Text Editing demo page will not work. To enable these functions for purposes of the demo, you must modify your browser preferences.

Scalable Vector Graphics in Web Pages

In Firefox and Konqueror, it's possible to increase and decrease the size of the font. This should be more generic. It really should be zoom out, zoom in. This way scalable vector graphics will actually scale!

Possible DOM bug in Firefox

tags: Firefox, bug, DOM

I found what appears to be a bug in Firefox 1.0.4. Using JavaScript, i'll append a new DOM node, a link, into a web page. Using Link.setAttribute( 'href', 'http://www.mit.edu/' ) the link is clickable, but using Link.setAttributeNS( 'http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml', 'href', 'http://www.mit.edu' ) it is not.

My example is here.

The source of this example is XML Transformations with CSS and DOM from the Apple developer site.

Thanks MozillaZine

After installing a couple extension, Firefox would not start. After a quick search i found this page and it helped me resolve the problem quickly. To sum up start firefox in safe-mode

firefox -safe-mode then uninstall the foul extension.
